Seasoning and health: Tips to reduce your sodium consumption.

When it comes to Mexican food, it is tradition to cook with salt, add salt at the end and have the salt shaker on the table just in case.
1 – Buy meat, chicken and fish that are fresh. If it is fresh, it does not contain added salt like it occurs with all processed foods.
2 – Eat fresh fruit. Frozen or canned fruit needs extra salt to be preserved (some fruits and vegetables that are frozen specify when no additional preservatives have been added).
3 – Avoid precooked meals. When reading their ingredients and quantities you will see that they have a much higher level of sodium than if cooked them at home.
4 – Use herbs and spices to condiment your food. Like with garlic, it helps bring flavor to our meals without adding more sodium.
5 – Remove the salt shaker from your table and avoid the temptation of adding extra salt.
6 – Cook with minimum salt quantities. It’s easier to add salt at the end if needed than overdoing it at the beginning.
