Hypertension and salt intake in Mexico.

A direct correlation has been found between excessive salt consumption and chronic health problems. According to the National Health Institute of Public Health, in Mexico we consume twice the amount of salt than what is recommended. Meaning that we are advised to eat only 5g of salt and on a daily basis we have about 11g of them. No wonder that 5 out of 10 Mexicans suffers from hypertension.
High amounts of refined salt may result in cardiovascular problems because it thins blood vessels and damages kidneys.
But all of this can be prevented or treated with simple changes in our eating habits. One of the suggested modifications is changing refined salt with Fleur de sel which is naturally low in sodium. Plus, it has the additional perk of containing over 80 essential minerals that are beneficial to our health.
